'Growing Pains’ is a piece I started working on when I decided to take some time away from my commercial work to reignite my passion for creating art. I isolated myself in a little cottage in the Dandenong Ranges without a car, internet, booze, or any of my usual vices that could distract me from my mission. It was a mentally painful but transformative experience that later catapulted me into a new era of growth and experimentation that I’m calling my butterfly era.
I worked on this piece over the last 6 months, mostly looking at it and fighting the impulse to paint over or obsess over it. This piece has been a witness to my struggles and triumphs. We’ve been on a wild ride together, and I hope its story can resonate with and inspire you.
